Security Windows
Securing your family home’s windows is important for safety, peace of mind and most obvious to secure your belongings from intruders. We recommend that you permanently secure each window that you do not open for ventilation. Mostly we recommend that you secure all windows that are close to the ground and that could look like they provide easy access to the house.
We have security ideas and systems to suit various styles of windows.
Double Hung Window
These are the windows that look like two panels that sit one above the other. They slide up and down for opening and closing. They usually have a latch that swings around and locks it shut. However this lock is easily opened. Intruders can sometimes slide a knife vertically through the crack and separate the two pieces, unlocking the window.
We have specific key lock styles to secure these windows. Another idea is to ensure that the window is only able to be opened at a certain height so that it’s not big enough to allow an average human to get in.
Sliding Window
Sliding windows create even more concerns as the Double hung windows. These windows slide horizontally to open and close rather than up and down. Sliding windows may be more insecure as they can easily lift up and out of their tracks. There are a few different ways to partially secure windows, for example by driving screws into the upper track so that there is no room to manoeuvre the window from its track. Another option is installing a charley bar to hold the sliding part when closed. Key lock sets are the most secure way to prevent intruders from opening your sliding window or even lifting it from its tracks. Usually it involves installing a lockable clamp to the lower frame.
Casement window
Casement windows are the ones that open out from the bottom of the window and stay secure from the top, giving a triangle type shape when the window opens. They open with a geared crank. These windows are usually quite secure from intruders as they don’t open wide enough to allow entry. However, to be sure that you are not going to get unwanted things in your home we have a number of key operated locks available for casement windows. We will install your security locks so that you have peace of mind.
